Real Madrid took another step closer to a La Liga title on Saturday as they beat Osasuna 3-1 away from home to take themselves a point clear of 2nd placed Barcelona with two games in hand. This victory makes it three wins, two draws, and two defeats in a difficult period of games for the Madrid giants, but it does take them a step closer to Barcelona’s record of finding the net in 44 consecutive games.
It’s not just been the odd goal that Real Madrid have been snatching either. They have netted at least twice in 22 of their last 25 games in all competitions, but their rather poor defensive record saw them finish 2nd in their Champions League group behind Borussia Dortmund.
At the Bernabeu, Real Madrid have won 11 of their last 13 games in all competitions, losing just one competitive game this season and scoring three or more goals in nine of these 13 games. Napoli’s defence will certainly have to be wary.
Unsurprisingly it’s been Cristiano Ronaldo who has been finding the net most often. He has scored 16 goals in his 22 appearances in La Liga and the Champions League this season, but at odds of 8/15 to score anytime I think there’s most value to be found in the anytime goalscorer market.
Real Madrid have conceded 13 goals in their last 13 home games and are facing a Napoli side who have scored an impressive 21 goals in their last six away days. Dries Mertens has been in phenomenal form this season, scoring 20 goals in his 28 appearances, only 20 of which have been starts. Half of these goals have been on the road too, so odds of 2/1 for him to score look the best value for our anytime goalscorer predictions.
Napoli made it 18 games unbeaten with their comfortable 2-0 win over Genoa on Friday, and that followed on from an emphatic 7-1 thrashing at Bologna, to make it 11 wins from their last 13 matches. Away from home they have won five of their last seven games and haven’t been beaten since a 2-1 Juventus win back in October. In the Champions League group stages they beat off competition from the likes of Benfica, Besiktas, and Dynamo Kiev to take the top spot.
Both of these sides are phenomenal going forward and that should make for a very entertaining game on Wednesday. Real Madrid have seen at least three goals in each of their last 13 home games and both teams have scored in nine of those. Napoli have seen at least three goals in eight of their last nine on the road and both teams have scored in eight of them too. This makes odds of 10/11 for Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score look a good value offering, and I’m going for that along with a 3-2 win for Real Madrid at huge odds of 20/1.
